What is the process from start to finish? When is the landowner paid?
We assess your timber and advise on what we believe is the best for your land, what trees to harvest, and the estimated value. We highly value landowner input and defer to their wishes. If the property owner agrees with the sale offer, a contract is signed. We often pay the landowner an initial down payment and begin the job. Once the timber is cut, we arrange for the logs to be hauled to a sawmill by one of our sub-contractors. The sawmill pays us for the timber. Landowners receive copies of load slips along with their payment.
What can I expect upon completion? Is the landowner responsible for clearing stumps and treetops?
Stumps and treetops will be left behind. Treetops are a good source of firewood. The ground will be uneven, with noticeable tracks from skidders and heavy equipment, however, we will do our best to minimize environmental impact. We do not provide post-harvesting land restoration, or forest regeneration.

What is sustainable forestry?
-
Preserving our forests for future generations and sustainable forestry strike a balance between the requirements of the environment, wildlife, and forest communities. As a landowner, your role is integral to this process, ensuring the health and longevity of our wooded land and maintaining product flow, soil condition, water quality, wildlife preservation, and beauty, collectively underscoring the urgency of preserving our natural resources and the benefits it brings to the ecosystem and future generations.
-
It promotes healthy growth.
-
Older trees will eventually block sunlight to younger trees, prohibiting growth.
-
It allows rain and other nutrients to younger trees and promotes regeneration.
What is the difference between logging services and tree services?
Logging companies specialize in large-scale timber harvests. This process involves carefully selecting and felling of mature trees, which are then sold and transported to a sawmill. The landowner, in turn, receives a percentage of the sale, making it a mutually beneficial arrangement.

A tree company operates differently. They will charge the landowner for their services, including small-scale tree removal, tree tops, stump removal & grinding, and pruning.

*Sundberg Logging will consider a small-scale job depending on the location, tree species, and value.
